Parents guide to National Careers Week 2021

Dear Parents and Pupils,

National Careers Week is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, from 1st- 6th March, a year when hope for the future and belief in the potential of careers is needed more than ever.

We recognise that a lot of young people and families are experiencing feelings of worry or uncertainty around future careers. You and your family, like most of us, have perhaps wondered if career opportunities will be affected by the pandemic, and what that might mean for the future.

We want to encourage families to have conversations about careers, especially this year during these challenging times. Young people can start to explore careers, spark their curiosity and build hope for their future by talking about careers during National Careers Week.

There are lots of resources to help. These can be found at https://ncw2021.co.uk/welcome/start/ and include some of the following.

- Information on careers from over 40 National organisation, including our supporters the Natwest Group and NHS Health Careers

- An online virtual careers fair https://ncw2021.co.uk/

- A short Believe film, created to support young people to imagine and believe in their potential

- Activities for pupils

- A short Hope film with stress and wellbeing resources. This features young people talking about their hopes and anxieties for the future. Wellbeing advice and practical tips on managing feelings of stress is provided by GP and broadcaster Dr Radha Modgil.

We will be covering careers during form time and pupils will also be given time to explore the NCW Virtual Careers Fair throughout the week.

ONLINE CAREERS DAY

We have also been notified of a Careers Day taking place online for pupils and parents. The event will take place online on Saturday 27th February 2021 from 9:30am to 4:00pm, and is open to all parents and young people aged 13-18. You do not have to attend the whole day and can choose which sessions you might like to attend.

You can meet professionals from a range of companies such as PWC, Goldman Sachs, E-ON, and Atkins Global. This event will give pupils an idea of the careers that are in high demand and how they can start to develop their own career pathway. There will also be a live Q & A session with the panel of speakers of each session who will answer any questions you may have.

Tickets must be booked online at: https://careersummit.gtscholars.org/

If you have any questions then please get in touch with Mrs Hart.
