Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 the pupils' work involves central skills in: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. These skills are developed through a programme of work which is centred on the study of literary texts, non-literary texts and media.  Pupils are assessed every half term on either reading or writing.  These assessments are kept in school in the pupil’s assessment folder to demonstrate their progress over the key stage.  Further to this, pupils self and peer assess their work to make it clear where their next steps are. Speaking and listening is assessed every half term.
English homework may involve a range of tasks: reading, analysing, researching, planning, learning spelling, checking or illustrating writing and, of course, composition and comprehension. We place great emphasis on the prompt and thoughtful completion of homework tasks as it is integral to the development of a pupil's progress in English.
