Year 10 Cup success
The Year 10 football team are through to the third round of the ESFA (English Schools’ Football Association) Cup.
Blessed Trinity’s Year 10s famously won the national competition in 2013 and the current group are looking to emulate that.
They overcame St Augustine’s in Billington 1-0 in the first round, a game which had extra significance for PE teacher Mr Kelly.
“I was up against my brother who is a PE teacher at St Augustine’s so it was nice to beat him and it was also my birthday so the lads said it was a present for me!”
The side, captained by Sam S, then faced Newman College in Oldham described as ‘a team of giants.’
Mr Kelly said: “We beat them 3-1 with Archie H scoring a hat-trick, all with his weaker right foot, and the third was a superb overhead kick.
“Unfortunately Demitri broke his arm towards the end of that game and ended up at Oldham Hospital but is recovering now.”
They will face Clitheroe Royal Grammar School in the third round.
In the Lancashire Cup, their first game is against Corpus Christie in Preston.
