What is an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships combine hands-on training in the workplace with off-the- job training at a local college or specialist training provider. Young people work towards qualifications that provide them with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for their employment.

After achieving an Advanced Level Apprenticeship apprentices can progress part time into Higher Education whilst still in employment.

 

Who can do an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are available to young people over the age of 16 and entry requirements vary depending on the employer and industry sector.

 

Levels of Apprenticeship

There are three levels of apprenticeship available for those aged 16 and over:

Intermediate Apprenticeship   - Level 2

Advanced Apprenticeship        - Level 3

Higher Apprenticeship             - Level 4 / 5 / Foundation degree

 

How to apply for an Apprenticeship

During the spring term there will be employers and training providers visiting school to discuss apprenticeship opportunities. This is also when pupils should start looking for apprenticeship opportunities and vacancies.
